Saving Dachshunds. Changing Lives.
Founded in 2012 and based in Foster, Furry Angels Dachshund Rescue (FADR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of the breed we hold so dear — the Dachshund.
We are an independent, stand-alone rescue group made up of passionate dachshund lovers who donate our time, resources, and hearts to helping doxies in need. We are not affiliated with any other rescue organizations or shelters — every dog we save is supported directly by our dedicated volunteers and community.
💛 Our Mission
To rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home as many Dachshunds as physically and financially possible throughout Rhode Island, New England, and beyond — giving each dog the second chance they deserve.
🐶 Where Our Dogs Come From
FADR welcomes Dachshunds from a variety of situations, including:
-
Animal shelters
-
Local veterinarians
-
Owner surrenders
-
Occasionally, other reputable rescue groups
Many arrive scared, neglected, medically fragile, or simply displaced due to life changes. Every dog receives individualized care, veterinary treatment, and placement in a loving foster home until they are ready for adoption.
🏡 Our Service Area
While rooted in Rhode Island, we proudly serve and adopt throughout:
-
Rhode Island
-
Massachusetts
-
Connecticut
-
Maine
-
New Hampshire
-
Vermont
-
New York
-
New Jersey
-
Sometimes Beyond
We primarily adopt within the New England region, though we occasionally place dogs beyond this area when the perfect match is found.
🩺 Rehabilitation & Responsible Placement
With over 30 years of experience with the Dachshund breed, our team understands their unique personalities, needs, and health considerations.
We are committed to:
-
Providing comprehensive veterinary care
-
Addressing behavioral and emotional needs
-
Carefully screening adopters
-
Matching each dog with the right forever home
Our goal isn’t just adoption — it’s lasting, successful placement.
📚 Education & Advocacy
Beyond rescue, FADR works to:
-
Partner with animal control and community organizations to educate the public about Dachshund characteristics and responsible ownership
-
Collaborate with reputable Dachshund rescues nationwide
-
Raise awareness about puppy mills and rescue mills
-
Promote ethical breeding and adoption practices
We believe education is one of the most powerful tools in preventing neglect and unnecessary surrender.
🤝 A Community of Dachshund Lovers
FADR is powered entirely by volunteers and supporters who share a deep love for the Dachshund breed. Every adoption, donation, and share helps us continue our lifesaving work.
Together, we are giving second chances — one doxie at a time.
We Need Your Help
Our rescue efforts are made possible by donations from members of our community, like you! We receive no grants (Federal or State money), so we are completely self-supporting and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of our friends and supporters. Your contribution to our rescue efforts will help provide the often necessary, sometimes very expensive, medical care, food, and necessities to ensure our dogs are getting the best care possible, and prepare them for a loving home. Please consider making a donation today.
We are always in need of volunteers, foster homes, and donations. Your assistance saves the lives of these precious dogs, and it would not be possible without your help!

We miss you
We were contacted in 2019 when Sasha was brought into veterinary care by a neglectful owner, requesting she be euthanized. She almost did not make it through her first night from how malnourished and poorly cared for she was, but we restored her to great health and found her a loving home. The work we do here is not always easy, but so rewarding!
